70s Rock Icons Sons Release Their First Single With a Jaw-Dropping Sound

Legendary glam rockers Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of KISS have proven that musical talent runs in their genes as their sons, Evan Stanley and Nick Simmons, release their debut single with their project Stanley Simmons.

Their first track, “Body Down,” arrived with an official lyric video on Friday, December 5, and marked a major step forward for the duo, who have been building momentum online for more than a year.

Instead of leaning into KISS-style theatrics, Evan, 31, and Nick, 36, are chasing the music they grew up loving. Evan told KTLA on Tuesday, December 2, that he and Nick were raised on rootsy Americana rather than arena rock.

“It really has nothing to do with what our dads do,” he said, noting that both share similar influences despite coming from two different households.

Nick added that he rarely gets the chance to make something acoustic.

“And so it was, like, 'Let's do it. 'Cause it would be fun.' And then people were, like, 'No, you should do this,'” he recalled.

Their upcoming album is being produced by Green Day’s Rob Cavallo, who has already raved about the duo’s unique energy.

“The fact that it has nothing to do with the sound of KISS is the first thing that's interesting,” Cavalla said per Blabbermouth on Friday, December 5. “And even the name STANLEY SIMMONS. And you realize they're kind of like the new Laurel Canyon mystical, magical. It's just got its own vibe that's very deep. So we're excited."

As for feedback from their rock-legend dads, Nick admitted Gene, 76, specializes in the art of the backhanded compliment.

“He'll be, like, 'This is much better than the last thing you showed me,’” he explained of his dad. “And I was, like, 'Oh, you said some nice things about that.’ He goes, ‘Nothing compared to this.’”

However, Evan added that both families have been nothing but supportive, saying that honest feedback makes the praise hit harder.

“If someone's honest with you, then when they say something's great, it's actually worthwhile, and it means something,” he said.

Nepotism chatter has become inevitable for a project like this, and Nick knows it.

“I am like every other consumer out there — I’m a little sick of the family members of people trying to insert themselves into our eyeballs,” he joked, before noting it doesn’t matter if the music is actually good.

The duo didn’t even set out to form a band at first. Evan told Tmrw magazine that they just wanted to sing together once, but when they heard it back, they realized it felt special. Nick agreed, describing their harmonies as creating “a third voice, something new.”

That chemistry was already on display in their December 2024 cover of “The Sound of Silence”, which went viral enough that Gene told the New York Post the reaction was instant.

“You can’t create that,” he said in an interview with publication published in March.

Paul, 73, has also been openly emotional about the collaboration. Earlier this year, he said Evan and Nick were finishing an album that he called “fantastic” and “magical,” adding that their connection reminds him of the early days of KISS with Gene.

“Gene’s and my sons are gonna be singing together and making great music,” he said. “And the industry is gonna be buzzing about it.”
