Miley Cyrus Opens Up About Her Unusual Phobia: It Is Impacting My Everyday Life

Miley Cyrus is opening up about her unusual phobia—and how it's been increasingly impacting her life through the years.

The 33-year-old singer spoke out about her fear of paper, AKA papyrophobia, during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!on Thursday night (Dec. 4). While sitting down with the host, Cyrus admitted that even looking at paper makes her want to gag.

"I hate paper. Looking at it makes me want to vomit," she shared, explaining that it makes wrapping presents for the holidays extremely hard. "The real problem for me is when people have dry hands and then they touch paper."

Cyrus explained that she can't read a newspaper and even has trouble getting Amazon packages which make her "sick" and is "the worst of it all." Because cardboard is extremely hard for her to touch, she has her fiancé open the boxes outside.

She added, "When someone sends me a lovely letter, I just don't even open it. I love text messages. No paper. Email. No paper. Phone call. No paper."

Cyrus went on to say that it's been a lifelong issue for her and she remembers being a little girl and her brothers taunting her by rubbing paper together in her face. Since then, things have only gotten worse and she admits it's probably time to seek therapy.

"It's a phobia and I need help," she said. "It's getting worse so there does need to be some sort of intervention. I am going to look into some sort of EMDR [psychotherapy], being hypnotized about it because it is impacting my everyday life."

Thankfully, having iPads and Kindles have decreased the amount of paper she has to see on a regular basis so she's still able to function.

As for the one kind of paper she's willing to touch? Wax paper and rolling paper—but she makes sure her hands are moisturized!
