WhileScream 7is on its way to theaters next year, original franchise star Skeet Ulrich insists he isn't returning and what it has to do with actor Melissa Barrera. The actor revealed he was originally scheduled to reprise his role as Billy Lumis until Barrara's controversial firing.
Fans were excited to see Barrera helm the Scream franchise as its leading "it" girl, taking on the reins from Neve Campbell. After playing the role of Samantha Carpenter in 2022's Scream and Scream VI, the actor was reportedly fired.

According to Ulrich to the New York Post, his return as Billy in Scream 7 was cut due to Barrera not returning.
"I used to know," Ulrich said about having no clue how Scream 7's storyline goes, "because part of coming back for five and six was being a part of seven. It was a three-picture arc for Billy Loomis, or the imagination of Billy Loomis in Melissa Barrera’s character’s head. But when all that went down with her, obviously you lose her and you lose what’s in her head."
Ulrich is referring to how he was able to return to the Scream franchise despite his death in the original movie. It's discovered that Sabrina Carpenter is Billy's daughter, and she sees him as a figment of her imagination throughout the movie.
The actor adds that the original storyline for Scream 7 before Barrera's exit was "really, really interesting."
While Matthew Lillard, who starred as Stu Macher, makes his return despite his own character's death in the original, Ulrich insists he isn't in the movie.
"I’m not involved. I’m really excited though," he said. "I’m excited for [“Scream” creator] Kevin Williamson to take the helm and to see what the mastermind of it all comes up with. I have no clue."
