VICTOR, N.Y. (WHEC) — William Wu, a standout player for Victor boy’s basketball, has made a significant impact on his team, and not in the traditional way.
Once the student manager, Wu has now been named team captain, a role he earned through dedication and hard work.
“Puts the team first, always attentive, and he’s been a great example for everybody on the team,” head coach Tyler Roberts said. “I think all the other kids on the team look up to him.”
Senior guard Randy Johnson II praised Wu’s work ethic.
“I’ve been with this kid all summer and I’ve seen him work his hardest, harder than anybody else,” said Johnson.
Wu expressed his surprise at being named captain.
“I wasn’t expecting that. I was really just trying to be on the team, be a great team player, and try to play a big role,” Wu said.
Wu’s dedication is evident in his daily routine.
“Showing up every day. Doing the little things. Being early to film, practices, getting extra shots up. Things like that,” Wu said.
His commitment has inspired his teammates to match his work ethic. “I think it makes everybody work harder,” Johnson said. “You see a guy like that grinding, busting his butt off on the court each day.”
“A lot of hard work from these guys, they’ve been putting in great effort,” said Roberts.
Wu’s journey from student manager to team captain has been remarkable. As Victor boy’s basketball aims for success in March, Wu remains a player to watch.
