For Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green, going on the road is part of the job. But as he lamented to the media on Tuesday, December 2, that means leaving his pregnant wife at home.
“Pretty s***ty if I’m honest,” Green, 35, said when asked how it felt knowing his wife, Hazel Renee, is back in the Bay Area. “But, nonetheless, this is my job. And I love to do my job. But it’s terrible, if I’m honest.”
“It’s been tough,” he added. “We’ve been gone so much. I haven’t seen my family much over the last month, really.”
Green and Renee announced in September that they are expecting their third child together, but did not announce a due date. They also share daughters Cash, 5, and Hunni, who is days away from her second birthday. He is also father to son Draymond Jr., 8, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Jelissa Hardy. Renee, 39, shares daughter Olive, 11, with former NBA player Jacob Pullen.

Though Green will continue to be away from home in the coming weeks, with the Warriors playing five of their next six games on the road, he did get to spend time with Draymond Jr. when his team was in Oklahoma City. Draymond Jr. asked his dad to introduce him to Thunder star Chet Holmgren, and the three shared a moment on the court before the game.
“Anytime you can give them those experiences that quite honestly money can’t buy,” he said, “I’m always forever grateful.”
One of the more outspoken players in the NBA, Green has been a lightning rod for controversy on the court. Off the court, he has made it no secret how much he values being a father. He opened up about being a dad in a 2023 story with Andscape, saying that fatherhood has taught him a lot about himself.

“I don’t really got no hobbies, man,” he said. “I spend a lot of time with my family and my kids. That s*** teaches you a lot about yourself dealing with them kids. You know what I learned dealing with my kids? Dealing with them you learn, ‘Oh, s***, I do that. Like, I need to do this differently because they get that, too.’ And so, spending a lot of time with my kids has taught me so much about myself.”
He later added, “We all need to continue to better ourselves and work through situations. So, for me, working through issues has been a really big thing that my kids and my wife has taught me. It’s been great.”
Green also described how he tries to spend as much time with his kids as possible during the season.
“As much time as I can,” he said. “I do a lot of school drop-offs. You want to get that 30 minutes across the Bay Bridge. That’s meaningful time. So, I try to do as many of those rides as I can. When you get home, lock in with them. Spend that time with them. Because No. 1, they need it.”
