Thanks to unforgettable songs like "Fool for the City," Foghat will always be a major part of classic rock history — and fans will never stop wanting to rock out to their iconic songs. That's why the band is heading out on tour yet again, over half a century since "Slow Ride" — their biggest hit ever — first climbed the charts.
As Ultimate Classic Rock reported, Foghat's upcoming "Twang and Bang Tour" will kick off on Jan. 9 in Fort McDowell, Ariz., and will include includes a number of international dates in Finland and Sweden in addition to their U.S. stops.
If you're wondering about their current lineup — considering founding members Dave Peverett and Rod Price both died in the early 2000s — Foghat now features original drummer Roger Earl, guitarist Bryan Bassett, singer Scott Holt and bassist Rodney O'Quinn. (Peverett died in 2000 at the age of 56 after a battle with kidney cancer, while Priced died in 2005 due to a fall after suffering a heart attack.)
"2025 is coming to a close, and what a year it's been!" Foghat said in a statement. "We can't wait to hit the road for the 2026 Twang and Bang Tour! Check out the dates we've already lined up, with plenty more on the way."
In addition to ticket sales, Foghat is still selling plenty of records, too. In September of this year, the band released an expanded 50th anniversary edition of 1975's Fool for the City with a never-before-heard concert from their earlier years; their 2023 album Sonic Mojo spent over 30 weeks in the Top 10 of the Billboard blues album chart.
The name Foghat came from a Scrabble game
According to Louder, the unusual name of Foghat was invented by Peverett during a game of Scrabble with his brother years before the band formed. It came back up later when the band members were all giving each other nicknames.
"It was after a show, we’d all had a few beers and decided we should all have pseudonyms," Earl explained. "Dave had his name, ‘Lonesome’ Dave. I was Skins Willy, for some unknown reason. Kim, I think, was the Incredible Gnome, and Dave decided that Chris Youldon [vocalist] should be Luther Foghat. Chris couldn’t quite see that, though.”
Since Youldon didn't want to go by Foghat, it was decided that the nonsense word would serve as the band's name.
"When we told them our new name, the record label looked at us like we’d grown a new head,” Earl admitted.
Little did they know the name Foghat would be part of rock history forever!
