Chicago Bears Injury Report: Kyle Monangai Upgraded, Rome Odunze Remains Sidelined

The second installment of the Chicago Bears injury report ahead of the team’s Week 14 showdown against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field is out. And while there is some good news regarding rookie running back Kyle Monangai, seeing that second-year wide receiver Rome Odunze missed a second consecutive practice is concerning.

Chicago didn’t hold an official practice on Wednesday, so I didn’t think twice about seeing a DNP next to wide receiver Rome Odunze’s name on the week’s first Bears injury report. Admittedly, I chalked it up to Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson giving his leading wideout an extra bit of rest. That could still be the case, but it is troubling to see Odunze miss back-to-back practices.

If you’ll recall, Odunze missed some practices earlier in the year with a heel issue. It didn’t cause him to miss a game, so I suppose that could serve as a silver lining here. With that in mind, we will continue to monitor this situation and share updates if and when they come our way.

Here are some other notable takeaways from Thursday’s Bears injury report:

Running back Kyle Monangai (ankle) was upgraded on Thursday. Monangai was listed as a limited participant on Thursday after getting a DNP on Wednesday’s estimated Bears injury report. There are so many good things happening with Chicago’s ground game, and a lot of them have to do with what the rookie from Rutgers is doing when he gets his time to shine. I’ll feel better about this week’s game if Monangai can put together a full practice on Friday. Linebacker Ruben Hyppolite II and cornerback Tyrique Stevenson missed practice again. I find it doubtful that they will play on Sunday in Week 14. On the other side of the coin, linebackers Noah Sewell (elbow) and T.J. Edwards (hand, hamstring) continue to get good news on the injury front. Edwards remains limited in practice, but that represents an upgrade for a player who had been racking up DNPs on the Bears injury report in recent weeks. As for Sewell, getting back-to-back full participation practices in hints at his return happening this week.

There is just one more Bears injury report update left in this week. We plan on sharing it when it hits our desk on Friday.
