Period romances are making their comebacks with Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights getting another adaptation starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. As buzz surrounds the movie, Robbie calls her co-star the next big actor of their generation.
When the first trailer hit for director Emerald Fennell's adaptation, Elordi and the rest of the cast were met with divided reactions from fans. In an interview with British Vogue, Robbie advocates for Elorid's stunning portrayal in Wuthering Heights.
"I saw him play Heathcliff," she said. "And he is Heathcliff. I’d say, just wait. Trust me, you’ll be happy."
"It’s a character that has this lineage of other great actors who’ve played him, from Laurence Olivier to Richard Burton and Ralph Fiennes to Tom Hardy. To be a part of that is special. He’s incredible, and I believe in him so much. I honestly think he’s our generation’s Daniel Day-Lewis," she added firmly.
Elordi is coming off his strong press tour and role in Guillermo Del Toro's Frankenstein, alongside Mia Goth and Oscar Isaac. Since his days in The Kissing Booth and Euphoria, many believe Elordi has broken out of his origins stereotype.
He's gained Hollywood traction thanks to his more dramatic roles like Priscilla and the black comedy thriller Saltburn. To many, Elordi has risen to become an actor with range and depth on screen.
Wuthering Heights is set to release on Feb. 13, 2026, with Elordi joining the list of actors who have played the notable role of Heathcliff.
Olivier played the role in 1939 opposite Merle Oberon, with Burton playing the role in the television adaptation in 1958. In 1992, Fiennes starred alongside Juliette Binoche in the 1992 adaptation.
Some may remember that Tom Hardy also played a version of the character in a two-part British series in 2009. He starred with his now wife Charlotte Riley.
