The Kill Bill director, Quentin Tarantino, has recently made waves after calling out Paul Dano as "the weakest male actor in SAG." He doesn't stop there, as he revealed he couldn't stand watching Owen Wilson in one of his favorite Woody Allen movies.
During an appearance on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, Tarantino named the 2011 movie Midnight in Paris as one of his favorite movies of the 21st century. Despite this, he didn't have glowing remarks for its lead star.
"I really can't stand Owen Wilson," Tarantino revealed. "I mean, I can't stand him."
He goes on to say that while watching the movie for the first time, he spent a majority of it "loving it and hating him".
While disliking the Wedding Crashers star initially, a second watch of Midnight in Paris changed Tarantino's mind, but not by much.
"The second time I watched the movie, I was like, 'Ah, okay, don't be such a prick. He's not so bad. He's not so bad.' And then the third time I watched it, I found myself watching him," he explained.
Midnight in Paris is a fantasy comedy that follows Gil Pender (Wilson), who is a screenwriter and aspiring novelist. He's forced to face the shortcomings of his relationship with his materialistic fiancée. His journey is exaggerated as he travels back in time to the 1920s every night at midnight.
The movies ended up landing Wilson a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture — Comedy or Musical, and he also received a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Best Ensemble with his castmates.
Despite coming around to Wilson's role in the movie, it's safe to say Wilson won't get the call to star in a Tarantino film. The director not only called out Dano as an unfavorable actor, but Wilson and another as well.
"I don’t care for him. I don’t care for him, I don’t care for Owen Wilson, and I don’t care for Matthew Lillard," he said.
