Jaylon Johnson and the Bears Are Confident Going into Lambeau Field

Jaylon Johnson has never been short on confidence, and it has been one of my favorite traits of his since arriving as a Chicago Bears draft pick in 2020. The two-time Pro Bowl cornerback has been fueled by being a second-round pick, was fearless when being targeted by top quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers, and was a vocal leader as a captain last season. There has always been some good energy surrounding Johnson. Hence, it is no surprise that he exudes confidence going into this week’s upcoming game against the Green Bay Packers.

And I am absolutely digging this quote (h/t 670 The Score’s Chris Emma) in which Jaylon Johnson shares a vibe check as the first-place Bears head into venerable Lambeau Field:

“We have more belief than what we’ve had previously before because we’ve put in the work and we’ve seen the results come from it and you gain confidence from that. I would say we definitely feel a lot better. But again, this is a different team, a different season, and we’re going into it all guns blazing, ready and prepared.”

The confidence just oozes off the page. And I love it.

Jaylon Johnson and the Bears should be confident headed into their Week 14 game vs. Packers

The Bears *SHOULD* feel confident going into their Week 14 showdown against the Packers — and not just for rah-rah hype reasons, either. What Jaylon Johnson lists in the quote above are perfectly cromulent reasons to feel good going into this game. The Bears have put in the work because they are being coached hard. If you’ll recall, that was something players were publicly asking for from their coaches last year. A little more than one year after jettisoning that coaching staff into the abyss, these Bears are seeing the work they put in translate into wins. That isn’t something that was happening under the old regime.

Jaylon Johnson is also right to underscore that this is a different year and a different team than the last one that went into Green Bay and beat the Packers at Lambeau Field. The players are better-coached and should be better prepared going into this game. Also, this group isn’t taking the field with the role of spoiler on their mind or just hoping to play out the string. Instead, this team is traveling up north with a chip on its shoulder with something to prove. That Black Friday victory against the Eagles was a signature win. But beating the Packers on the road would be the kind of triumph that legitimizes what is happening at Halas Hall.

And for Jaylon Johnson, a win against the Packers at Lambeau Field would be extra sweet. This is the deepest in a season in which Johnson has played for a winning Bears team. Heck, this is the first winning season he has been a part of as a pro. Johnson has played 72 games for Chicago’s football team since landing in town as the 50th overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft. He has made two Pro Bowls and earned second-team All-Pro status. But he has never played in a playoff game. A win on Sunday in Green Bay would put him one step closer to making that happen.
