Chicago Bears Injury Report: Encouraging Updates For T.J. Edwards and Noah Sewell

The first Chicago Bears injury report ahead of the team’s Sunday showdown against the Green Bay Packers is OUT. And it comes wiith some pleasantly surprising news as linebacker T.J. Edwards returned to practice. This news comes with a caveat that requires further explanation. But with that being said, good news (even when anchored with a caveat) is not to be taken lightly — especially this time of year.

As noted by the Bears, this is an estimated injury report based on the walk-through the team had on Wednesday. Nevertheless, I am still taking it as an encouraging sigh that linebacker T.J. Edwards would have practiced in a limited capacity had the team practiced. Edwards has been limited to five games this season because of a hamstring injury and a broken hand that required surgical repair. Credit to Bears Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen for cobbling together a unit that has held it together lately despite the injuries. But still … it would be nice to see Edwards back in the lineup sooner rather than later.

Here are some other notable takeaways from Wednesday’s Bears injury report:

Linebacker Ruben Hyppolite II (shoulder), running back Kyle Monangai (ankle), wide receiver Rome Odunze (foot), and cornerback Tyrique Stevenson (hip) would not have participated had the team held a normal practice. On the one hand, there is a part of me that is concerned seeing those names on the Bears injury report. However, we have seen Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson use Wednesday as a rest day for players. Perhaps that is what is happening with Monangai and Odunze. As for Hyppolite and Stevenson, their injuries have kept them out of recent games. Hence, the DNPs feel like more of a sign hinting at their potential availability (or lack of it) this week. Cornerback Jaylon Johnson (groin), defensive tackle Andrew Billings (concussion), defensive lineman Dominique Robinson (concussion), and linebacker Noah Sewell (elbow) would have been a full-go on the Bears injury report had the team held a normal practice. That is a wonderful bit of news. Johnson played a limited snap share in his first action since Week 2. Meanwhile, Sewell’s elbow injury has kept him off the field for a few weeks. Any help the Bears can get at linebacker would be welcome at this point. All things considered, this is a relatiely light Bears injury report. I’ll take it!

There are two more Bears injury report updates left in this week. We plan on sharing more when they hit out desk.
