Nature Valley Revives an OG Treat for the First Time Since 1989

Nature Valley is bringing back a fan-favorite treat for the first time in over three decades.

The General Mills brand of breakfast and snack bars has been a staple since it launched in the mid-1970s. In the decades since, fans have watched it grow to produce not only the iconic granola cereal but also several flavor variations and grab-and-go spinoffs.

Among the most memorable were its Bopper Bars, which launched in July 1985 in Fudge Chip, Honey Crisp and Peanut Crunch flavors. A year later, it expanded the range with the June 1986 launch of Fudge Graham and Cookie Crunch, only to discontinue the treats in 1989. It's unclear why the lineup was suddenly struck from shelves, but decades later, in August 2016, the Betty Crocker Kitchens developed a copycat Peanut Butter Boppers recipe for fans to recreate the magic at home.

Recently, Stranger Things fans caught a glimpse of the '80s icon in the fifth and final season of the Netflix series and now, Parade has learned that one flavor—the Fudge Chip—is making a big comeback.

Nature Valley's Fudge Chip Peanut Butter Boppers Return for a Limited Time—Here's Where

According to an official announcement, the snack is not only returning with a vintage look but also its original recipe, featuring a creamy peanut butter center rolled in crisp rice cereal and decadent fudge chips for a rich, crunchy-meets-creamy bite that’s "pure 1980s bliss."

Nature Valley is so sure it's indistinguishable from memories of the OG, it calls it a "time capsule you can snack on."

“We’re beyond excited to bring Boppers back from the 1980s and into fans’ hands one more time,” Ray Joncas, the vice president of bars, business unit at General Mills, shared in a Dec. 3 announcement. “The beloved creamy, indulgent peanut butter-filled snack is the perfect match for streaming the new season, and we can’t wait for fans to enjoy!”

That said, fans aren't going to just find it on grocery store shelves (at least not yet... there's always hope). To score the nostalgic treat, you'll have to be one of the lucky few to score a limited-edition kit—which includes the Boppers, a shirt and a special recipe card—exclusively at sreppob.com (Boppers spelled backward in a nod to the Upside Down) beginning today (Dec. 3) for $19.87, while supplies last.

But like new episodes of Stranger Things, the "retro-favorite" does have an expiration date, so Nature Valley instructs those who miss the drop or find themselves yearning for the recipe after their stash is gone to visit its website to learn how to make the nostalgic recipe at home using the brand's Nature Valley Oats N Honey Crunch Bars or its Granola.

The General Mills brand also teased the potential of more surprises to come and "a few snacks left hiding in the shadows" of Hawkins, recommending fans tune into the Stranger Things Things channel (no, that's not a typo; that's what the account is called) and by following the Nature Valley official TikTok account (@officialnaturevalley) for more info.
