CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — The Ontario County Humane Society says it rescued 17 animals and found four dead cats in a home in Canandaigua.
According to the humane society, the sheriff’s office helped them execute a search warrant on Tuesday at a home on Overlook Lane following an investigation into an animal neglect complaint.
An Ohio Animal Rescue reported the complaint, as the animal rescue was concerned about unsanitary conditions and lack of medical care, according to the humane society.
During the search warrant, the humane society says 14 dogs total were seized, and some of them were in metal cages.
The humane society says three cats were rescued, and four were found dead in a freezer. The dead cats were brought to the Cornell Animal Diagnostic Center to determine the cause of death.
The seized animals were brought to the humane society for evaluation. The humane society says initial assessments showed the dog and cats had fleas, fur loss, dental issues, and ear infections. All the animals are undergoing medical attention.
The home the animals were found in was deemed unlivable by the Town of Canandaigua Code Enforcement Officer due to severe hoarding conditions.
As a result, Robin Burr, 61, and Sheila LaFleur, 63, were charged with animal cruelty (Class A misdemeanor) and issued appearance tickets.
