Colorado road conditions: Snow causes slick commutes, closes roads

Morning snow across the Denver area on Wednesday slicked up the roads during the morning commute, causing dozens of crashes and shutting down parts of highways.

As of 8:40 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation, road closures included:

Denver-bound U.S. 6 at Johnson Road in Golden for unspecified safety concerns, Two right lanes of eastbound Interstate 70 from exit 244 for U.S. 6 to exit 248 at Floyd Hill for a stalled vehicle, Two center lanes of Colorado 470 between Eirckson Boulevard and University Boulevard for a crash, And the right lane of eastbound U.S. 36 in Broomfield, between East Flatiron Crossing Drive and Wadsworth Boulevard, for a crash.

Several lanes of southbound Interstate 25 were closed in Lone Tree for a crash earlier Wednesday morning, but the highway had fully reopened as of 8:15 a.m., according to state transportation officials.

Colorado 93 was also closed in both directions between 58th Avenue near Fairmount and Colorado 72 near Arvada after more than a dozen cars slid off the road Wednesday morning, Colorado State Patrol spokesperson Ivan Alvarado said.

No injuries were reported, Alvarado said. The roadway opened shortly after 8:30 a.m., according to CDOT.

Denver police responded to 26 crashes between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m., according to the department. It’s unclear if anyone was injured in those crashes.

“Take it slow, leave room, and drive safe!” Denver police officials wrote on social media.
