GENEVA, Dec.3 (SANA) Hani Islim, a project coordinator for Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières), affirmed that tens of thousands of Gaza’s residents require medical evacuation and urged concerned states to open their doors to facilitate the process.
AFP quoted Islim as saying that the numbers accepted so far by host countries “do not amount to more than a drop in the ocean.”
He expressed regret over the slow pace of medical evacuations as conditions continue to deteriorate in Gaza, noting that the rate at which Israeli authorities reject evacuation requests “remains extremely high.”
Islim added that the challenge lies in the “lengthy and politicized” process of accepting patients from the Strip, explaining that some countries take a long time to decide or allocate budgets for treatment. He urged governments to “stop making these choices and focus solely on needs and on saving human lives.”
The prolonged Israeli aggression on Gaza — now exceeding two years — has resulted in more than 238,000 deaths and injuries, over 9,000 missing persons, hundreds of thousands of displaced families, a famine that claimed many lives including children, and extensive destruction across the Strip.
