2000s Rock Band Announces Exciting News 24 Years After First Show

Fans of Gorillaz in Los Angeles will be receiving a special treat next year.

It was announced on Tuesday via Instagram that the legendary rock band will be performing two exclusive shows at Los Angeles' Hollywood Palladium on February 22 and 23 of next year. Specifically, they will be playing their upcoming album, The Mountain, live a month before its release.

Gorillaz is an English virtual and non-virtual alternative rock band created by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett in 1998. The band's members include four fictional members: 2-D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle and Russel Hobbs. Their universe is presented through media such as music videos, interviews, comic strips and short cartoons. Gorillaz's most popular songs include classics like "Feel Good Inc.," "Clint Eastwood" and "19-2000," along with popular tracks from their different albums, such as Demon Dayz and Plastic Beach.

In September, Gorillaz officially announced their ninth studio album, The Mountain, along with its lead single, "The Happy Dictator" featuring Sparks. A month later, they revealed that they will be going on tour around Europe during March and April of next year. So far, no North American dates have been announced except these Los Angeles shows.

To purchase tickets to these special shows, fans need to have a House of Kong exhibition ticket, which allows them to gain presale access.

Inspired by watching music videos on MTV, Albarn, a musician, and Hewlett, a comic artist, created Gorillaz in the late 1990s and created a whole backstory and universe for the band. From 1998 to 2000, Albarn recorded Gorillaz' self-titled debut album at Studio 13 in London and Geejam Studios in Jamaica. The sessions resulted in the EP Tomorrow Comes Today in November 2000. It also included the band's first music video for the song "Tomorrow Comes Today", which introduced the virtual band members for the first time.

Gorillaz's first official concert took place on March 22, 2001, at the King's Cross Scala in London, marking the start of their Gorillaz Live Tour, which supported their self-titled debut album. The concert itself featured a unique visual setup with band members hidden behind a screen, a style that characterized their early shows.

After 27 years as a group and eight studio albums later, Gorillaz has sold multiple copies of their albums and won multiple awards, including a Grammy, two MTV Video Music Awards, an NME Award and four MTV Europe Music Awards. They have also been nominated for 11 Brit Awards and won Best British Group at the 2018 Brit Awards.

Their upcoming release, The Mountain, will be available on streaming platforms on March 20, 2026. Fans can gain presale access to the two Los Angeles shows in February by purchasing a House of Kong exhibition ticket by Sunday at 8 pm PT.

The House of Kong exhibition is a limited pop-up that will take place in LA from February 26 to March 19, where fans can celebrate and learn about the legacy of Gorillaz.
