Early 2000s Band Announces First Album in Almost Two Decades

Fans of this alternative/indie band received some exciting news.

Voxtrot, a popular indie pop band that formed in Austin in 2003, announced on Tuesday on Instagram that they will be releasing their first album in 19 years next February. Though they released an EP and an album filled with archived recordings in 2022, their upcoming project, Dreamers in Exile, will have 11 new songs, including the lead single "Fighting Back," which is out now.

"I’m thrilled to announce that our new album DREAMERS IN EXILE will be released February 27th, supported by a North American tour in March and April!" frontrunner Ramesh Srivastava wrote in his caption. "This album has been almost three years in the making, but this MOMENT has been 18 years in the making! Lots of love and much more to come soon…"

Along with the new single and album announcement, Srivastava also revealed that Voxtrot is going on tour around the United States and Canada next spring, with stops in Phoenix, Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, Philadelphia, New York City, Washington D.C, Dallas and more. Presale for the show begins on Wednesday, while general sale follows on Friday.

The 42-year-old singer explained in a press release shared to Stereogum that the album was inspired by his change of routine after moving to Los Angeles in 2015 and working for a courier company. Dreamers in Exile was produced by the band's bassist Jason Chronis, mixed by Dean Reid and mastered by Ruairi O'Flaherty. In addition, the visuals for "Fighting Back" were created by Annie Gunn and Peter Simonite.

Formed by Texas native Srivastava, Voxtrot was created in the early 2000s after dropping out of Berklee College of Music. The band self-released their debut EP, Raised by Wolves, in 2005, and its current members include Srivastava, Chronis, Matt Simon, Mitch Calvert and Jared van Fleet.

When they released Raised by Wolves, the band immediately went on a national tour. Less than a year later, Voxtrot released another EP titled Mothers, Sisters, Daughters & Wives in April 2006, followed by a three-song EP Your Biggest Fan in November of that same year.

In May 2007, the band put out their self-titled debut album, which peaked at number 42 on the Billboard Independent Albums chart. But after releasing various singles from 2007 to 2010, Srivastava announced on the band's website that they would break up after their Goodbye, Cruel World… tour, which consisted of a total of seven shows around the United States. For almost 12 years, the band members went on to pursue their own solo careers and personal projects until reuniting in 2022. After launching a reunion tour in the latter half of that year, they returned with "Another Fire" in September 2023 and "New World Romance" in November 2023 — their first new singles in 14 years.

Fans can now pre-save the album, check out the new music video to "Fighting Back" and pre-order the vinyl, cassette, CDs and new merch for the album on the band's LinkTree. Dreamers in Exile will be out on all streaming platforms on February 27.
