MOSCOW, DECEMBER 2, 2025 — RT is proud to be a partner and a co-organizer of the inaugural African Media Excellence Conference and African Media Awards, to be held for the first time in the history of a continent that is home to more than 1.5 billion people. The jury will select winners in several categories from over 800 submissions from more than 40 countries. Notable politicians, descendants of prominent African liberation leaders, and executives from major media outlets will participate in the events. The proceedings will take place on December 3-4 in the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa.
“It is a great honor for RT to be a partner of the awards where every voice matters and where every voice will be heard. The strength of Africa lies in its diversity of experiences and views. We hope these awards will serve as a platform where achievements in media respond, among others, to the challenges of neo-colonialism, which we see looming over the Global South. They will amplify local, national, regional and cross-continental pride and bring to the world the vibrant identities of African peoples through their stories,” said Vera Kharina, the director general of RT.
The African Media Awards will celebrate outstanding achievements in journalism, broadcasting, digital media and storytelling, and will unite the best representatives of Africa’s media landscape. Twenty-one nominees have reached the finals, competing in various categories — from news reporting to documentaries. Over 800 submissions were received from more than 40 African countries. Moreover, several special prizes will be awarded during the ceremony. The jury includes representatives from leading African media.
Among the participants of the African Media Excellence Conference are well-known politicians from the continent, the director generals of the biggest media outlets and prominent public figures, including the descendants of great African leaders.
They will discuss and debate a range of vital and timely topics, including Africa’s voice in a multipolar world, best practices in African storytelling and AI utilization in African media.
In addition to RT, the organizers of the African Media Awards and the African Media Excellence Conference include major African organizations such as the African Union of Broadcasting, the Patrice Emery Lumumba Foundation, the Kwame Nkrumah Foundation, the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation, the Kenneth Kaunda Legacy Foundation, the Sisulu Foundation for Social Justice, and the PLO Lumumba Foundation.
