Both were outrageously good, with only his actual results in 2025 lagging. Apparently the Mets feel like that part was a fluke, and they’re paying quite handsomely on that basis. This is a massive deal. We’ll see about the particular terms.
One huge question looms after this one: where does Edwin Diaz go? Are the Mets gonna double-dip at the back end of the bullpen? Would Williams sign on to set up Diaz? Or is this the moment the Mets move on from Diaz?
UPDATE: Jon Heyman notes that there are pretty significant deferrals that will drop that value a good bit:
