Drivers in the downtown core of Ukiah this week are being advised to Perkins Street if possible this week as paving on that city gateway begins, city officials reported.
In their latest update for the Urban Core Rehabilitation and Transportation Project, city officials explained that on Monday and Tuesday this week, Dec. 1 and Dec. 2, “grinding operations will occur during the nighttime hours. This work will be noisy, but it is expected to last only two to three nights. During this work, traffic lanes will be reduced to one-way traffic in each direction. Night work is being utilized to minimize traffic impacts.”
Once the grinding is complete, the paving will begin, which city officials has to be done during the daytime “to ensure proper asphalt curing due to the cold nighttime temperatures, (and that) this work will also require reductions to traffic lanes.”
To reduce traffic delays, city officials are advising residents and others driving through Ukiah to “please consider using alternate routes next week, both day and night,” noting that “we’re nearing the final stretch of this project!”
