Where Arizona and ASU basketball land in 1st NET rankings, latest AP top 25

The NCAA ranked the Arizona Wildcats No. 6 in the country and Arizona State Sun Devils at No. 100 in the first NET rankings of the 2025-26 season on Monday. 

The Grand Canyon Antelopes, meanwhile, came in at No. 143.

    The Associated Press’ Top-25 poll kept the Wildcats right at the top, ranking Arizona No. 2 behind Purdue and ahead of surging Michigan.

    NET rankings are the NCAA’s way to compare teams based on winning percentage, opponent’s winning percentage and average opponent’s opponent’s winning percentage, along with game location, team efficiency and quality of wins/losses. The selection committee uses them leading up to March Madness.

    Arizona building strong early-season resume

    Arizona is coming off a 98-61 victory over Norfolk State on Saturday to improve to 7-0 this season.

    The Wildcats have high-profile wins over defending-champion Florida, UCLA and UConn, amounting to two Quad 1 wins, one Quad 2 win along with four Quad 4 victories.

    Their next two games come against Auburn, which is No. 30 in the NET rankings and No. 20 in the AP poll, and Alabama, which is No. 14 in the NET rankings and No. 12 in the AP top 25.

    The Wildcats and Tigers tip off on Saturday at 8 p.m. MST in Tucson.

    Tommy Lloyd’s program is top 30 in the country in shooting percentage (51.2%), assists per game (19.0) and rebounding margin (+12).

    Arizona State cracks the top 100

    The Sun Devils put together a quality effort in Hawai’i last week with wins over Texas and Washington before they faded late in a title-game loss to USC.

    ASU is 6-2 with two Quad 1 losses to top 20 teams: Gonzaga and USC. It also has two Quad 2 wins and four Quad 4 wins so far.

    Bobby Hurley’s squad resumes play on Saturday at 8 p.m. MST against 5-2 Oklahoma at Mortgage Matchup Center as part of the Jerry Colangelo Classic.
