ROCHESTER, N.Y. — On Sunday afternoon, the Office of Violence Prevention held a community coat drive at the Willie Lightfoot R-Center in Rochester. Along with coats, the event provided other winter gear, healthcare resources, and free food for those in need.
“The thoughts behind the coat drive is, you all know we live in western New York, right? And so we know we have a heavy onset of winter,” organizer Bruce Blue said. “So the idea around this coat drive is just to see if we can warm up the community, as much as possible.”
Organizers said they had around 400 coats to give away and planned to distribute every single one. The event ran from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
