People are still buzzing about the Dancing With the Stars finale. But not all of it's good chatter.
"Three hours, three dances, that's a lot of pressure," Maks Chmerkovskiy said on The Penthouse With Peta podcast. "Not everybody's a Robert Irwin."
"[The pros] are utterly done," Peta Murgatroyd added. "They are exhausted. They have nothing left in their tanks. And then to stack on a third dance in one day?"
In previous seasons of Dancing With the Stars, the finale was two days. The finalists would perform two dances on Monday, then the third dance would be performed the following day and the winner announced.
"Three [dances] in one day is an overload of s--t that they don't need to do," Murgatroyd, 39, continued, speaking to the instant dances and how they're not a great way to showcase the pro's talent and celebrity's growth.
"Then it brings down their quality of dance — as a pro, as a celeb, everyone can't dance to their max because they are utterly exhausted. They're maxed out."
"It's too long," Murgatroyd said in summary. Her husband, 45, of eight years agreed.
"Make Dancing With the Stars a two-day finale," he said.
Fans on Reddit agreed the finale was entirely too long. "Personally, I thought the finale was underwhelming," said one Reddit user. "They definitely should cut it to 2 hours and have 3 or 4 couples again."
Like Murgatroyd, this fan also didn't love the instant dances. "I hate that challenge so much," they said.
"Sorry Dancing With the Stars, but three hours is too long for a finale," an X user agreed. "It’s perfect for the Titanic, but too long for a reality tv contest."
"Even IF the dances were 5 minutes long each, thats 1 hour and 15 minutes of actual dancing with an hour and 45 minutes of filler time," another X user pointed out. "Just no."
Fans and guest judges like Tom Bergeron have been very vocal about the changes they want to see with the show next season. As executive producer Deena Katz pointed out previously, DWTS is unlikely to bring back the results show per Bergeron's wishes. But next season's finale might get a little finessing.
