Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Kate Pelot has verbally committed to swim and study at Pepperdine University as a member of the class of 2030. She confirmed the decision in an email to SwimSwam, writing:

“I am thrilled to announce my commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Pepperdine University! Thank you to my family, coaches, and friends for supporting me through this journey! Go Waves!!”

Pelot hails from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, where she attends Ponte Vedra High School and trains year-round with the Sporting Jax Aquatic Club. She’s a backstroke specialist who is also strong in the 100 and 200 freestyle events.

She has qualified for the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) State meet each year of her high school career.

As a freshman, she took sixth in the 100 back (58.23) and ninth in the 50 free, clocking a 24.30 that still stands as her current lifetime best. She also contributed a 23.92 split to the gold medal-winning 200 free relay and added a 53.72 leg on the bronze medal-winning 400 free relay.

As a sophomore, Pelot won the 100 back with her current best time of 55.99 and touched 12th in the 50 free (24.83). She helped the 200 free relay defend its title with a 24.12 split and led off the winning 200 medley relay in 26.37.

Last year, she picked up a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 100 free and 100 back, clocking a personal best 52.43 in the former and a season best 57.33 in the latter. She helped Ponte Vedra win the 200 free relay for the third straight year with a 23.90 split and led off the winning 200 medley relay in 26.62 to defend that title.

Just two weeks ago, wrapping up her high school career, Pelot claimed bronze in the 100 back (56.76) and clocked a best time of 52.42 to take fourth in the 100 free. She produced her fastest 200 free relay split ever at 23.74 as Ponte Vedra took silver, and led off the winning 200 medley relay in 26.30 to complete the three-peat.

Pelot’s best times in the 200 back (2:04.54) and 200 free (1:52.81) stem from last year’s Florida Senior Championships. She has continued to improve year over year in the longer events, despite her 50 free and 100 back stagnating in recent seasons.

Pepperdine University has a Division I mid-major swimming program in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) conference. The team placed first at the 2025 women’s conference championships.

At that meet, Pelot’s current best time in the 100 back would have placed her second, while her 200 free career best would have taken fourth and her 200 back seventh. Her 100 free would have been quick enough to take 12th out of prelims and secure a spot in the ‘B’ final.

The meet’s schedule will likely factor into her event selection, as the 200 free and 100 back fall on the same day about 45 minutes apart, while the 100 free is scheduled back-to-back with the 200 back on the final day. The scheduling conflicts and three-event limit will likely keep her out of the 100 free individually, which might prompt her to shift to a different event on another day, such as the 50 free or 200 IM.

Looking at the team’s 2024-25 depth chart more broadly, Pelot would have ranked first in the 100 back, second in the 200 free, third in the 200 back, and fourth in the 100 free. Her versatility should make her an asset on whichever relays she is placed on.

With those ahead of her in the 200 back having since graduated and no incoming recruits faster in any of these events, she will join the team as their top backstroker alongside fellow incoming recruit Riley Kleinfelder. Kleinfelder is about a half-second faster in the 200 back (2:04.03) and a half-second slower in the 100 back (56.46), which should make them strong training partners.

Joining Pelot and Kleinfelder in committing to Pepperdine’s Class of 2030 are sprint freestyler Carlee Davis, distance freestyler Caroline MacDonald, IMer Arden Bewersdorf, and breaststrokers Frankie Ramey and Kat Kracht.
