The Hadayek al-Ahram area of Giza has witnessed a significant increase in stray dogs, including pets left unleashed by their owners.
This has sparked growing concern among residents, after repeated complaints of serious assaults on children and adults.
One such incident occurred on Thursday when a Cane Corso, one of the most dangerous dog breeds in the world, attacked a 12-year-old boy in front of building number 249.
This caused panic among residents and prompted them to demand the Interior Ministry’s immediate intervention.
The father of the boy who was attacked said the incident began while his son was at a friend’s house for a private lesson in the “Z” zone.
He added, “My son was at a friend’s house for a lesson, and a family there owns one of the most dangerous and ferocious dog breeds in the world.”
“The incident happened on Thursday in front of building 249. My son had finished his lesson and was waiting for his mother to pick him up because he had a volleyball match when the dog suddenly attacked him. It grabbed him by the shoulder and dragged him down the street,” he said.
The father added a “delivery driver who was passing by saw what was happening, so he drove his motorcycle into the dog to free my son. He’s the one who truly saved his life.”
He indicated that his son is suffering from severe psychological trauma in addition to serious physical injuries, saying, “The boy is in shock. He has a very large cut on his shoulder and numerous other injuries.”
The child’s father added that he immediately took legal action after his son received first aid.
The father explained that residents had warned about the dog several times, saying it could cause a disaster.
He added, “The villa owners let the dog roam freely in the street.”
He lamented that his son was attacked, adding that all he asks is that his son receive justice and that this never happens to another child.
