Around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, a driver traveling eastbound on I-88 near Downers Grove lost control of their vehicle and slid across three lanes of traffic into a ditch alongside the highway, dashcam video captured by an NBC 5 photographer showed.
The driver begins to swerve while traveling in the second from the farthest left lane, and seconds later slides to the right across two lanes of traffic and into a ditch, video showed.
No injuries were reported in the crash, Illinois State Police said.
The crash occurred as several inches of snow fell across the region Saturday, prompting a winter storm warning advising of snow accumulations between six to 10 inches through 6 a.m. Sunday.
Illinois State Police and Illinois Department of Transportation officials warned the wintery conditions could lead to hazardous driving conditions and urged drivers to be extra cautious through the weekend.
Drivers should expect slick roadways and be extra cautious, authorities advised. Reduce speed, increase braking distances and allow more space between you and other vehicles to ensure you get from point A to point B safely while in the snow.
Other tips authorities gave for driving with low visibility are to take it especially slow when approaching intersections, ramps, bridges, shaded areas and other locations prone to ice buildup.
