Arizona freshman forward Ivan Kharchenkov exited the first half of the Wildcats’ game vs. Norfolk State on Saturday with a left ankle injury.
With 5:44 left in the first half, Kharchenkov grabbed a defensive rebound and attempted to quickly dribble down the floor past three nearby Norfolk State players.
After the ball was poked away by Norfolk State’s Anthony McComb III, Kharchenkov’s momentum carried him forward where he ran into Norfolk State guard Adrean Newton.
Kharchenkov stepped on Newton’s foot and rolled his left ankle. He then took an awkward fall and remained on the floor near the basket before trainers helped him off the floor.
Kharchenkov limped off the court with trainer Justin Kokoskie and immediately headed to the locker room, not putting much weight on the ankle. He did not warm up for the second half, and Anthony Dell’Orso started the second half in place of Kharchenkov.
Prior to exiting, Kharchenkov had two points, a rebound, an assist, a steal and a turnover in nine minutes.
Kharchenkov has started all seven of the Wildcats’ games this season and was averaging 7.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.3 steals in 25 minutes per game entering Saturday.
