Carver Cheeks, an all-Big Sky Conference first-team wide receiver this year for the University of Northern Colorado football team, will reportedly enter the transfer portal in January.
Multiple college football media and transfer portal websites are reporting Cheeks will enter the portal when it opens Jan. 2. Cheeks has not responded for a request to comment as of Friday. His bio on the social media site X gives his contact information and says he has one year of eligibility remaining.
If Cheeks enters the portal, this will be his second entry in two years. He went into the portal last year, decided to return to UNC as a walk-on and eventually earned a scholarship with his play this fall.
Cheeks came to UNC to play defensive back in 2023 as a member of head coach Ed Lamb’s first recruiting class. Cheeks is from Colorado Springs and Mesa Ridge High School. He switched to wide receiver during the 2024 season. He’s listed on the UNC roster as a 6-foot-2, 210-pound junior.

Cheeks was one of the top targets of a much-improved Bears offensive, and he was one of the best in the Big Sky Conference.
Three of those receiving touchdowns came on a season-best day Oct. 18 at Sacramento State. Cheeks caught nine passes for 223 yards and the three touchdowns. The 223 yards were the most this season in a Big Sky game.
Cheeks’ 929 total receiving yards and 77.42 receiving yards per game both ranked fourth in the Big Sky as of the end of the regular season. He led the conference in receptions per game (5.92).
Cheeks’ brother, Cash, was a tight end at UNC in 2023 and 2024. He transferred to the University of Texas El Paso after the 2024 season.
