After a needed three-day break, the well-fed Chicago Bulls will gear up for another back-to-back set. Things tip off tonight in Charlotte before they fly to Indiana for a matchup with the 2-16 Pacers. This marks their FOURTH back-to-back draw of November.

They were dealt a pretty brutal hand over the last couple of weeks. And, hey, they at least deserve some credit for managing to win three of five after their brutal five-game losing streak. Were they the most convincing wins? Not at all, especially when we consider they were on the brink of losing to both the Trail Blazers and Wizards. But I guess the win over Denver showed that there is still a pretty solid and frisky young team in there somewhere. You don’t start the season 6-1 because of straight luck, particularly when you beat some of the rosters they beat. The problem is that other teams now have more film to watch and a deeper scouting report on their desk. This league is all about adjusting, and the Bulls have undoubtedly struggled to do that over the last couple of weeks. That’s why this upcoming stretch against some of the NBA’s worst feels like it couldn’t come at a better time. I know stacking wins here would feel less meaningful to some fans, but it should be easier to iron out wrinkles against the Nets and Pacers of the league than the Cavaliers and Hawks. Speaking of which, the Hornets have been in a downward spiral. After starting the season as one of the NBA’s better league pass teams, Charlotte has returned to form. They are incredibly inconsistent on both sides of the ball. Opponents have shot a league-high 50.5 percent on their defense this season, which includes a striking 41.6 percent success rate from downtown. According to Cleaning the Glass, only the Nets have had a worse defense in halfcourt situations this season. Can the Bulls take advantage of that with the kind of high-level off-ball movement and cutting we saw over the first seven games of the year? Offensively, there is no question that the Hornets have some weapons. LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller are two very talented individuals who can fill up a highlight reel. Both have been banged up this season but are in line to suit up this evening. Meanwhile, rookie Kon Knueppel is off to a great start to his career, averaging 18+ points per game and shooting 41.0 percent from downtown on high volume. To be clear, it’s not like having these three has made the Hornets a particularly scary or dangerous offensive unit, especially when we consider Ball has shot extremely poorly this season (38.6 percent from the field). But the Bulls just lost to the freakin’ Pelicans. If they can allow that disjointed offense to drop 143 points, I have little doubt that a rotation with guys like Miller and Ball can do the same. Something that should scare the Bulls: Charlotte is 10th in offensive rebounds per game and 8th in second-chance points. Billy Donovan’s teams have been KILLED on the glass over the last handful of games, and they could be in major trouble again if they don’t have their veteran big man. The injury report also isn’t set up to be the Bulls’ friend tonight. Nikola Vucevic is questionable and at risk of missing his second straight game with a knee injury. Kevin Huerter, Patrick Williams, Dalen Terry, and Coby White are also each listed as questionable. Huerter and Terry missed the game against New Orleans, while Williams got the start in a small-ball lineup. He is now dealing with a wrist sprain. The good news for White is that he doesn’t have a new problem, but the Bulls are still clearly deciding how they want to handle his early-season workload. They have sat him out at least one game in each of the previous back-to-back sets, so is that the plan again? By the way, tonight is a meaningless NBA Cup game. Both the Hornets and Bulls have been eliminated from the in-season tournament. Chicago started things off with a win in New York before losing two straight to the Bucks and Heat. As for the Hornets, they failed to pull off a victory in either of their first three cup games. Tonight is all about pride! ICYMI: Noa Essengue AND Lachlan Olbrich put on a show in the Windy City Bulls’ last G League victory. The second-rounder from Australia posted his first career triple-double in the States. OKC is the best team in the league, and it’s not even close. Off to an 18-1 start, and they’re only now getting back their second-best player. Adam Silver may have to intervene! This is just unfair!
