Windsor prepares to play host to Holy Family in football semifinals

When you accumulate wins at the rate the Windsor football team does, it would only be natural for the victories to blend together a bit.

But a win Saturday by the Wizards would stand out from all the rest.

Unbeaten, top-seeded Windsor (12-0) will play host to fifth-seeded Holy Family (11-1) in the Class 3A state tournament semifinals at 1 p.m. Saturday at H.J. Dudley Field.

The winner moves on to the state title game where it will face second-seeded Pomona (11-1) or No. 3 Palisade (10-2) at 10 a.m. Dec. 6 at Canvas Stadium on the Colorado State University campus.

The Wizards are attempting to qualify for their first football state title game since winning the 4A crown in 2015.

Holy Family has played in the finals as recently as 2023 when it beat Lutheran for the 3A title.

Up to this point, Windsor has engineered an essentially flawless season. The Wizards have outscored opponents an average of 38-5 per game.

Every one of their many wins were by double digits. In the only game that was slightly tightly contested, Windsor pulled away in the second half to defeat fellow playoff qualifier Roosevelt 26-14 in nonconference play Sept. 26.

The Wizards’ pursuit of perfection — and a fifth state football title — will be severely tested Saturday.

But a win would, no doubt, top each of the dozen emphatic wins that have come before.
