Comedian and actor Ray Romano made a surprise appearance at the opening of the Everybody Loves Raymond: Celebrating 30 Years exhibit at the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame on Nov. 25. In a speech to the crowd, Romano talked about his early career and landing the role on the show.
Then, things took a heartwarming and emotional turn.
"Listen, I'm old, I'm going to forget..." a tearful Romano started, pausing a moment to collect himself. "I'm going to forget some names. I'm not going to forget this."
"This is like time travel for me, but it's the best kind of time travel because it's through a magic moment in my life. To relive this and be here and get a sense of it is so special."
The comedian thanked everyone in attendance and said he would be back to take in the exhibit with his wife.
"My wife didn't come because she's over me," Romano joked of his wife, Anna. The two have been married since 1987. His three sons, Gregory, Matthew, and Joseph, were in attendance.
The immersive fan experience officially opens to the public on Nov. 28. It features the full 70-foot-wide set from the 30th anniversary CBS special, on display for the first time ever.
Fans who explore the exhibit will also get an up-close look at all the classic Everybody Loves Raymond nostalgia, from the Barone family’s living room couch to Frank’s famous recliner.
There are original costumes from the whole cast, plus tons of never-before-seen behind-the-scenes photos, videos, and moments pulled straight from co-executive producer Tom Caltabiano’s archives. Other archives like the iconic giant fork and spoon, original scripts, producer notes (including Romano’s list of alternate show titles), and even the show’s Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series will be on display.
