Chicago firefighters battled a large blaze at a church in the city’s Englewood neighborhood on Thanksgiving.
The fire was reported in the afternoon hours at Renewal Life Church, 5848 S. Emerald Ave. near West 35th Street. Footage captured by an NBC Chicago photographer showed flames and heavy smoke pouring out of the structure as firefighters worked to bring the fire under control.
The Chicago Fire Department posted on social media that heavy smoke was visible when firefighters arrived and as of the late afternoon, 20 fire companies were working together to extinguish the fire.
The fire was later extinguished at 4:01 p.m., officials said.
CFD was conducting an investigation.
