Comedian Patton Oswalt shared an inside look at his friendship with the late Robin Williams on Nov. 26, and fans were touched by the intimate story he told on the Good One Show podcast.

"I became friends with Robin Williams in the last years of his life. I'd see him every Wednesday at Meltdown on Sunset because he loved comic books and we would talk about comics and stuff," Oswalt recalled. One day, Williams showed up to one of Oswalt's comedy shows unannounced, and refused to cut the line or enter for free.
"I didn't know he was there till they came in and told me he was there," he remembered. Despite offering to "bring him in," Williams insisted on buying a ticket. "He stood in line and just talked to people and then came in, stood in the back room, didn't want to go up and do a set, just wanted to watch the show," Oswalt shared, adding that Maria Bamford also performed that night.
After the show, the comedians and some of the crowd gathered around while Williams told "stories about his career, both stand-up and films."

"He never got a chance to do like what [Bruce] Springsteen is doing with the one-man show, where you can actually just sit and go, here's everything that happened. Because that dude lived a life."
Oswalt added that his friend was "effortlessly humble" and "a seeker." "He was someone that also made mistakes and learned and fought," Oswalt shared. "When I say be a seeker, I mean you never arrive at your destination, but searching while you're alive is what makes the life more vibrant, and that's what he was doing."

Fans were touched by the story, with one saying, "I was at this show! He was standing in line behind us... All I had on me was this GRE-prep book for him to sign, which he did. When we got inside, he didn't go to any VIP section, he just stood with the rest of us (no seats on this tour), laughing like everyone else."
Another wrote, "Amazing and sad. He was truly special," while a third shared, "Robin Forever [red heart emoji href=" parade.com/living/emoji-meanings"]. You have a very similar vibration to him, Patton."
Williams and Oswalt's sweet relationship was apparent in 2012, when Oswalt presented Williams with his Stand-Up Icon award at the Comedy Central Comedy Awards. The two embraced before Williams gave a touching speech.

“To be in the same room with Don Rickles, Louis C.K., Patton Oswalt — that’s the meaning of the night for me,” said Williams. “It’s a wonderful, strange night of people I admire deeply. It’s crazy fun."
