Just because he's one of the most beloved and acclaimed musicians of all time doesn't mean Bob Dylan is everybody's cup of tea...and one notoriously harsh critic recently shared an opinion about the iconic folk rocker that's sure to make fans hot under the collar.
During his recent appearance on the Nov. 24 episode of the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast, Simon Cowell was asked whether "unconventional" voices like those of Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Frank Ocean would make it through the audition process on American Idol.
“At the end of the day, it was based on what the public wanted or liked," Cowell said, before going on to share his personal feelings about Dylan.
“When I heard Bob Dylan’s version of that Adele song, ‘Make You Feel My Love,' I didn’t know he wrote the song. I think if he’d walked in and sang that version, I’m not gonna lie, I would’ve gone, ‘Forget it.' Seriously. Because I didn’t even know he wrote the song, when I heard his version, I was like, ‘Whoa’. I just don’t think that would have been a great audition.”
“Look, I’m not a fan of Bob Dylan, but if people like him, then they like him, and if you don’t, that’s what I learnt from my career," Cowell continued. "Everybody has different tastes, whether it’s food, entertainment or whatever.”

These most recent slams weren't Cowell's first public criticisms of Dylan, as Far Out reported; in 2007, he said Dylan's music “bored him to tears."
“I’ve got to tell you, if I had ten Dylans in the final of American Idol, we would not be getting 30 million viewers a week. I don’t believe the Bob Dylans of this world would make American Idol a better show," he added.
While Cowell is of course entitled to his opinion, it's safe to say there are many who vehemently disagree: Dylan's most-streamed song on Spotify, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, has been streamed over 700 million times.
