Ritchie Blackmore, frontman of rock bands Deep Purple and Rainbow, is now giving fans more insight into the "medical reasons" he was forced to cancel his upcoming shows.
The 80-year-old rocker, who had a heart attack in 2023, wrote via Facebook on November 23 — several days after the initial cancellation announcement — that he has now "acquired debilitating migraines."
Specifically, Blackmore detailed, a recent loud and stifling hotel stay while on tour "culminated in me having a severe migraine attack. I couldn't stop vomiting. The room wouldn't stop spinning and I was extremely dizzy to the point of not being able to stand," he revealed.
After being rushed to the hospital and undergoing "CAT scans and other tests ... the doctors came to the conclusion that my official diagnosis was severe vertigo," the "Smoke on the Water" artist explained, noting that "when one tours, you have a lot of people who have to be healthy. Unfortunately, I was the one who got hit this time."
Until then, Blackmore signed off, "Hope to see you all one day again when I'm healthy."
Earlier this year, the British guitarist's wife, Candice Night, told Total Radio (per Ultimate Classic Rock) that Blackmore "had a heart attack about a year and a half ago" and received "six stents" — after which he was "told by his cardiologist not to get in a plane."
Two years later, he was well enough to get back on the road again — but has once again hit another health snag. As he stated in his Facebook message, however, he is hopeful to be onstage as soon as he is well enough to do so.
