Syria’s Health Ministry receives ambulances from UAE International Charity Organization

The Syrian Ministry of Health has received 16 ambulances provided by the International Charity Organization in the United Arab Emirates, to support ambulance services in Syria.

Najeeb al-Naasan, director of the Ministry’s Referral, Ambulance, and Emergency Directorate, said today that this batch will directly contribute to strengthening the capacity of the ambulance system.

He noted that the vehicles will be distributed among the provinces according to criteria that include population size and the distribution of health facilities, with the aim of ensuring that they reach the facilities most capable of saving patients’ lives and reducing the likelihood of permanent disabilities.

Al-Naasan described this step as strengthening the “brotherhood and partnership” between the UAE and Syria.

Khaled Abdel Wahab Al Khaja, secretary-general of the International Charity Organization, said that a delegation from the Organization, during a visit to Syria, reviewed a wide range of urgent needs in various sectors, including health, water, and education, in addition to other projects needed by families under the difficult, visible circumstances.

Al-Hajje revealed that among the projects the Organization is working on are delivering 16 ambulances and 50 dialysis machines to the Syrian Ministry of Health, carrying out maintenance in a number of hospitals, and establishing health centers in some remote areas.

Deputy Health Minister Hussein al-Khatib said in a statement to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that the health sector in Syria is worn out and needs support from “brotherly and friendly” countries and from international and local organizations, in order to improve the health services provided to patients.

21 million dirhams in ICO projects in Syria

A delegation from the International Charity Organization visited Syria on 23 November to inaugurate a set of charitable and humanitarian projects in several provinces, including well maintenance and mosque restoration, in addition to what was provided to the Ministry of Health.

During the visit, the delegation inspected 30 charitable projects implemented by the Organization in the fields of health care and education, the provision of water to the neediest areas, and food assistance to vulnerable families, as well as orphan sponsorship programs, in coordination with the relevant authorities in Syria.

Al-Hajje revealed that the total value of projects implemented by the Organization in Syria since it began operating about a year ago has reached around 21 million UAE dirhams, covering a range of relief and development programs.

The Organization is working to move from emergency response to sustainable projects that leave a long-term impact on beneficiary communities.

He added that this field visit aims to inaugurate new projects, assess existing projects on the ground, and sign contracts with local partners.
