MT. MORRIS, N.Y. — The Livingston County sheriff and health director are set to answer questions at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday about changes coming to the county’s Dog Control Department.
Starting Jan. 1, the Dog Control Department will move under the jurisdiction of the sheriff’s office, according to the Livingston County website. The county says it’s aiming for increased coverage, faster response times, and to create a one-stop shop for animal cruelty, dangerous dogs, and ordinance enforcement.
There will be extended public hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The county says the shelter’s status as “no kill” will not change. Vaccination clinics and spay or neuter programs will still be held under the Department of Health. You can learn more about what to expect here.
