Welcome to your last “warm” and mild day for some time, Chicago — over the next 24 hours, it will get significantly colder and windier, with “feels-like” temperatures in the teens at times and the potential for a weekend storm.
Tuesday morning started out rainy, NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Kevin Jeanes said, with temperatures in the 40s and steady rain moving across northern Lake County. The rain would transition to patchy drizzle and fog as the morning continued, with dry but cloudy weather expected through the afternoon.
High temperatures Tuesday will be in the low 50s, Jeanes said, which is above average for this time of year. But overnight, much colder air will move in, with temperatures plummeting into the 30s starting Wednesday.
“We go from above-average, to dropping below-average,” Jeanes said, of the sharp temperature slide.
Wednesday will also be blustery, with wind gusts as high as 45 or 50 miles per hour at times. Those gusts could impact travel on roads, the National Weather Service warned, with intermittent snow flurries also possible.
Across the lake, in northwestern Michigan, heavy snow was possible, with as much as 12 inches of snow possible and a winter storm warning going into effect Tuesday through Wednesday night.

“Bundle up for morning runs,” the NWS advised Thursday Turkey Trot runners.

— NWS Chicago (@NWSChicago) November 24, 2025Temperatures will remain cold Friday, but winds will subside slightly. By Friday night, snow could develop, Jeanes said, with accumulating snow expected through Saturday and into Sunday morning. The weather conditions could snarl travel starting late Friday night, the NWS warned.
“We’re keeping an eye on a potential weekend storm, centered around Saturday,” Jeanes said. An early look at possible snow totals were between three and six inches, Jeanes said, though those numbers could change.
After the holiday weekend, temperatures will drop even lower, with highs in the 20s for the first week of December, Jeanes added.
