LYONS, N.Y. — Law enforcement leaders gathered Monday to honor a longtime sheriff in Wayne County. The Public Safety Building in Lyons has been renamed the Richard J. Pisciotti Public Safety Building.
Richard J. Pisciotti served as Wayne County sheriff for 27 years.
State Sen. Pam Hemling joined sheriffs from neighboring counties and honor guards for the dedication ceremony. They paid tribute to Pisciotti’s decades of service and leadership in the community.
The former sheriff said the honor left him nearly speechless.
“I owe this to the past employees of this department and to the people of Wayne County — the present sheriff. It’s … I can’t find the words,” said Pisciotti.
Pisciotti also expressed hope that new employees entering the Public Safety Building recognize the hard work required to serve the public effectively.
