The documentary is not about the making of the series, so if you’re looking for a behind-the-scenes look at the show, you’re not going to find it there. Instead, the movie takes viewers on a road trip through “Laura-land” with some of the Little House cast, stopping at the real places Laura Ingalls Wilder once called home: Walnut Grove, Minn., De Smet, S.D., Mansfield, Mo., and plenty of small-but-charming spots in between. Along the way, the cast, museum directors, researchers and, of course, the fans talk about what Laura, her books and the long-running TV series have meant to them.
Who from the Little House on the Prairie cast is in the Little House Homecoming documentary?
Grassle played “Ma,” Little House’s warm, steady and quietly strong frontier mother, for the full run of the show, from 1974 to 1983. She's spoken about the challenges of working with Landon ("Pa"), who was not just an actor on the show, but also a producer and frequent writer and director, and also chronicled their tricky dynamic in her memoir Bright Lights, Prairie Dust.
In November 2021, she told the New York Post a rather shocking story, saying, “Mike would say 'c—' and make disgusting jokes about how a woman smelled after sex.”
“It was almost like I was frozen. But, as a woman in the 1970s film industry, I was so accustomed to these putdowns, it never occurred to me to sharply rebuke him. I kept up the professionalism. I’d be the good girl, play the part and hope."
Since then, she's cleared the air a bit. "Even though Mike gave me a pretty hard time for some years, I have absolutely no hard feelings," she told Buzzfeed in November 2025. "I have only forgiveness and appreciation for his gifts and the opportunity that he gave me. We sorted things out before he passed."
Landon died of pancreatic cancer in 1991, at the age of 54.

Dean Butler (Almanzo Wilder)
Butler, who produced Little House Homecoming, didn’t join the series as Laura’s future husband until Season 6, but he quickly became central to the series and remains one of the most active cast members at fan events today.
As the show’s spoiled antagonist, Arngrim leaned fully into Nellie’s bratty charm, turning the character into one of TV’s most memorable “mean girls.” Offscreen, though, she’s nothing but nice, especially at fan events, which she's become known for attending.
Charlotte Stewart (Miss Beadle)
Stewart has shared that, when auditioning for the role of Miss Beadle, she shouted to a room full of men, including Michael Landon, “Silence!” It was a bold move that she’s pretty sure got her the part, but her character was, in fact, a calm, patient and caring figure. Fans were sad to see her leave the show after Season 4, but they can now find her as a regular at Little House events.

No. Gilbert, who played Laura on the show, does not appear in the documentary. Although she's participated in fan events over the years, she doesn’t do so frequently, so her absence in the doc is not too surprising.
Is there a trailer for Little House Homecoming?
Yes. The trailer features commentary from the cast, fans and more, all marveling at the lasting impact of Little House on the Prairie. “That a show from 50 years ago could trigger such emotion in complete strangers — it’s almost impossible to completely process, really, that this is happening,” says Arngrim.
