The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this year will be a special treat with performances from Broadway to Netflix hits like K-Pop: Demon Hunter. Tony Award-winner Jonathan Groff will be performing this year and made a hilarious flub about not wearing undergarments for the occasion.
On the Monday, Nov. 24, episode of Today, Groff spoke about his upcoming performance for the holiday, starring in Broadway's Just in Time.
The 40-year-old actor was asked by Jenna & Friends co-host Andy Cohen if he had a good jacket to brace the November cold during the parade. Groff's response led to a few laughs and backtracks of clarification.
"I am just gonna brave the cold in the costume. I've decided to just not wear any undergarments," he said.
A sudden revelation of what his comment meant had Groff quickly clarifying, "Any extra undergarments," before covering his face in embarrassment. Groff's fellows Merrily We Roll Along castmates Danielle Radcliffe and Lindsay Mendez also couldn't help but snicker at the actor's blunder.
"No, you need long underwear!" said Cohen before adding, "So, he's going to be free ball in the Thanksgiving Day Parade."
Cohen's remark also didn't go unnoticed when Bush Hager turned to the fellow host and said "free-ball" might not be appropriate for morning TV.
Groff currently stars in Just in Time, a jukebox musical based on the life of American singer Bobby Darin. The Mindhunter star plays himself in the current day before traveling back in time to the 1950s and the 1960s to tell Darin's story.
The musical's producers announced Groff will exit his role in March 2026, with his replacement not revealed.
Alongside Groff, the musical also stars Sarah Hyland, Sadie Dickerson, Tony winner Michele Pawk, Joe Barbara, Drama Desk nominee Emily Bergl, Lance Roberts, Caesar Samayoa, Claire Camp, Julia Grondin, Valeria Yamin, John Treacy Egan, Tari Kelly, Matt Magnusson, Khori Michelle Petinaud, and Larkin Reilly.
