ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The state championships for boys and girls volleyball took place with thrilling matches determining the winners.
In the boys’ championship at Roberts Wesleyan, defending state champions Penfield faced off against Massapequa from Long Island. The match was tied at two sets apiece, but Massapequa earned a 15-13 win in the decisive fifth set.
On the girls’ side, Webster Schroeder claimed the Class AA crown in Glens Falls, marking their second title in three years. They defeated Garden City in four sets.
In Class D, York swept reigning state champions Candor to win their first-ever state championship.
