GENESEO, N.Y. — A 200-year-old house in the village of Geneseo was destroyed in a fire Saturday.
Geneseo Fire Chief Andrew Chanler said it took two and a half hours to get the fire — at 33 South St., a couple blocks from Main Street — under control. He said crews spent another four hours looking for and handling hot spots.
Officials say the house was a single-family home where two people resided. They both got out safely, along with their dog.
Chanler said the building appears to be a total loss. There’s no official word yet on what caused the fire, but the chief said it appears to be accidental.
