Polish breaststroke talent Jan Gajda has signed with North Carolina State University for the fall of 2026.
Gajda wrapped up his summer with a productive outing at the 2025 World Junior Championships (LCM). His top individual finish came in the boys’ 50 breast, where he placed 7th overall in 27.96; that time was just slower than his semifinal swim of 27.61, which remains his best. He also finished 11th in the 100 breast, swimming a lifetime best 1:00.92 in the semifinals.
Just over a month earlier, Gajda represented Poland at the European Junior Championships (LCM). His best finish there came in the 100 breast, where he placed 6th in 1:01.58. He also added a 15th-place 200 breast showing, clocking 2:17.39. Gajda swam the breaststroke leg of Poland’s 400 medley relay at finals (1:00.33), where he would contribute to the team’s bronze medal performance.
Earlier this month, Gajda set a pair of SCM bests at the XXXVI Memoriał Marka Petrusewicza. He finished with a 50 breast time of 27.09 and a 100 breast time of 58.33.
Gajda set his best long-course 200 breast time in July at the Polish Youth Championships, clocking 2:15.44.

Based on Gajda’s converted best times, he would have qualified for the ‘C’ final in the 100 breast, finished 28th in the 200 breast, and 47th in the 200 IM at last season’s ACCs.
His converted 100 breast would have also finished tied for 40th at last season’s NCAA Championships.
Gajda provides immediate conference-scoring potential for the Wolfpack in the 100 breast. His converted time sits just one spot outside of the consolation finals from the 2024 ACCs.
His 100 breast conversion would have ranked 4th on the Wolfpack roster last season, and his 200 breast would have been 5th.
Gajda’s international experience should translate well into the NCAA landscape. Once he is able to get going in a yard’s pool, Gajda could be a serious contributor for an already loaded NC State team.
Gajda joins Ethan Holloway, Liam Carrington, Austin Temple, and Sam Marsteiner in NC State’s 2026 recruiting class.
