Dillingham pumped for Territorial Cup, hoping for ‘many more years’ of even matchups

With Colorado and Baylor now in the rearview mirror, the Sun Devils and Wildcats have nothing between them and the 2025 Territorial Cup in Tempe on Black Friday.

Both squads are 8-3, marking the first time since the 2017 season (Arizona State: 6-5, Arizona: 7-4) that the programs both possess a winning record entering the rivalry game.

As Arizona is riding a four-game winning streak and ASU a pair of victories, Sun Devils coach Kenny Dillingham said Sunday on X that there will “hopefully (be) many more years of two good teams facing off!”

Man how awesome is it to have 2 good football teams in the Territorial Cup! Both teams should be ranked, hopefully many more years of 2 good teams facing off! @CoachBrennan #SunDevil4LIFE #DontHateAppreciate pic.twitter.com/d2EQNCv7gq

ASU ran away with the 2024 edition down south, 49-7, and clinched a spot in the Big 12 Championship in its inaugural year in the conference.

What a difference 12 months makes, however, as the Sun Devils entered last year with a title game appearance at AT&T Stadium assured in 255 of 256 possible scenarios entering the final week of the regular season. This year there are just two scenarios where they make it only if they defeat the Wildcats at Mountain America Stadium.

Arizona senior has simple message about Territorial Cup

As Monday practices are not even upon us, the competitive juices of the T-Cup have plenty of time to ramp up, but Arizona sixth-year senior Treydan Stukes already voiced the game’s true spirit.

“We take it very seriously here. It’s a one-game season for us,” Stukes told reporters Saturday after defeating Baylor 41-17. He came down with a critical end-zone interception against the Bears to begin the fourth quarter, as the Wildcats clung to a four-point lead before blowing the game open.

Stukes will have the most Territorial Cup experience among players this year, as he has competed in the last five editions — the first being his freshman season in 2020 where he logged three games and the most recent being in an injury-shortened 2024 season where it was his first game after missing two months.

In the rivalry game alone, Stukes has recorded 27 tackles (21 solo) and has a 2-3 record.

Some poke fun at the opposing team for treating the rivalry game like “their Super Bowl.”

Arizona and ASU embrace the sentiment.

The 2025 Territorial Cup between ASU and Arizona kicks off from Mountain America Stadium at 7 p.m. MST on 98.7 and the Arizona Sports app. Watch the game on FOX.
