RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros swimming & diving program completed a strong day, which saw four school records get broken, at the NW Collegiate Invite, hosted by Idaho, and the NAU Diving Invite, hosted by Northern Arizona (NAU) Friday.
NW Collegiate Invite
Freshmen Dia Henderson and Sarah Bull, and sophomores Annaleagh Stahl, and Ida Rudelius set the tone early for the Vaqueros, securing an 11th place finish in the 200 freestyle relay with a program record time of 1:39.18. In addition, Henderson’s leadoff split of 24.34 broke her previous 50 freestyle record.
Stahl earned UTRGV’s only top ten finish in the finals, placing ninth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:09.02. Meanwhile, freshman Jaydy Jay came in 27th with a time of 2:13.54.
Bull was the lone Vaquero to compete in the 500 freestyle finals and turning in an 11th place finish with a school record time of 5:06.94.
Henderson continued her record setting ways, clocking in at 24.09, in the 50 freestyle to break that program record for the third time today. Henderson would finish 25th in the event while Rudelius finished in 34th with a time of 24.82.
At the end of the preliminary session, the team of Stahl, Jay, Bull, and Henderson set a new school record in the 400 medley relay, earning a time of 3:57.66, which was good for 13th place.
Looking Back at the Prelims
The Vaqueros opened up the meet strong as Bull earned a then-school record 5:09.02 in the 500 freestyle to finish ninth and qualify for the “B” final. Meanwhile, junior Olivia Votava (5:19.83), sophomore Madiana Lofgren (5:21.44), and freshman Ellinor Plant (5:22.46) all clocked in season-best swims, but just missed the cut for the finals, placing 26th, 28th, and 29th in the race, respectively.
Stahl led the way for the Vaqueros in the 200 individual medley, turning in a team-best 2:09.72 to qualify for the “B” final while Jay’s time of 2:13.83 saw her qualify for the final session.
In the 50 freestyle, Henderson set a then-school record 24.66 to finish 28th and qualify for the “D” final while Rudelius finished placed 35th with a time of 24.87 to qualify for the finals as well. Votava (25.11) and Lofgren (25.53) turned in top 50 performances, earning 41st and 49th, respectively, in the event.

BOISE, Idaho – The Alaska Nanooks swimming team began their three-day meet at the Northwest Collegiate Invite on Friday, swimming in five events during the day.
The Nanooks placed sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as the team of McKenzie Fazio, Ali Pecore, Talia Wentz and Janci Pangburn swam to a 1:36.25 finals time in the event. Alaska had two swimmers make the finals of the 500-yard freestyle, as Pecore secured a spot in the B Final and Kitti Marton swam in the C Final. Pecore finished 16th in the event, posting a 5:17.85. In the C Final, Marton led the way in her heat, touching the wall in 5:10.49 to claim 17th place.
Cosima Schmiedel and Giorgia Merlo both made the C Final for the 200-yard IM, with the duo finishing 19th (2:11.26) and 23rd (2:13.97), respectively. Meanwhile, in the A Final of the event, Dorka Dancsok swam to a rapid 2:04.02, taking second place and hitting an NCAA B Cut. Her time was a personal best for the event, beating her 2:04.12 set in 2023. That mark also ranks second in program history for the 200 IM.
The 50-yard freestyle was up next, as Pangburn claimed her spot in the B Final. In the finals, she swam to a 24.14, good for 15th place in the event. Fazio, Wentz and Pecore swam in the C Final for the 50 freestyle, with Fazio and Wentz finishing 19th and 20th with a 24.22 and 24.28, respectively. Pecore took 24th with a 24.72.
In the final event, the ‘Nooks placed 12th in the 400-yard medley relay, with the team of Dancsok, Schmiedel, Merlo and Pangburn recording a 3:57.41.
The Nanooks are back in the pool tomorrow at 8 a.m. AKST for day two of the Northwest Collegiate Invite.
