Derek Hough and his wife, Hayley Erbert, will be heading out on tour just months after becoming first-time parents, but they’ve already figured out the logistics of juggling a new baby and life on the road.
“I actually said, ‘Honey, I don’t know,’” Hough, 40, told E! News in an interview published on Friday, November 21. “I was like, ‘I don’t even know if I want to go on tour. I don’t know what I’m gonna feel, what I’m gonna experience. I don’t know how my life is gonna be. How personally my worldview is gonna change — and our life together as a family.’”
Despite his hesitations, Erbert, 31 — who underwent brain surgery for a cranial hematoma in December 2023 — urged Hough to take the leap. He related her eagerness to tour after pregnancy to her dance comeback following her health scare.
“Just like her recovery, she had this goal, this mission to work towards something,” Hough said. “And it really helped her recover. I think that she has a similar mentality even with this.”

While Hough and Erbert are set to kick off the Symphony of Dance: Encore tour in June 2026, with dates spanning to August 2026, the pair are simply testing the waters by traveling and performing around the country with a baby in tow.
“We’re like, ‘Let’s see how it goes and let’s see if it makes sense,’” he reasoned. “‘Your health is No. 1 and our family is No. 1.’”
As Hough and Erbert prepare for their new normal, they turned to Dancing With the Stars pros Val Chmerkovskiy, Jenna Johnson, Pasha Pashkov and Daniella Karagach — who have toured with their kids — for advice. (Chmerkovskiy, 39, and Johnson, 31, share son Rome, 2, while Pashkov, 39, and Karagach, 32, are parents of daughter Nikita, 2.)
“We asked them, ‘How was that? What was the experience like?’” Hough recalled. “And they said, ‘It is fantastic.’”
Hough’s Dancing With the Stars co-stars told him, “You’re with them all day — your undivided attention. You’re just there and then you put them down for bed, and then you go out and you do what you were born to do.”
Hough is optimistic about his and Erbert’s ability to balance work and family.
“We’re both very excited to enter into this new chapter in our lives as parents,” he added. “And then also to continue our love and passion for performing.”
Hough and Erbert have been married since August 2023. They announced her pregnancy in July.
