In a first-of-its-kind participation, the Syrian pavilion at the “Banan” heritage fair, currently held in the Saudi capital Riyadh, has attracted wide attention from visitors by presenting a diverse collection of handicrafts that reflect the depth and variety of Syria’s intangible heritage.
The pavilion features 15 Syrian artisans representing traditional crafts, including hand-blown glass, weaving, Aleppo laurel soap, copperware, embroidery, woodwork, Aghabani embroidery, mosaic and inlay, Damascene ceramics, enamel work, glass painting, handmade pottery, Damascene painting, and clay crafts.
Luna Rajab, Deputy Minister of Culture for Heritage and Antiquities, explained that Syria’s participation came at the invitation of Saudi Arabia’s Heritage Commission. She noted that the artisans brought their works and tools to stage live demonstrations for visitors, offering a vivid portrayal of the richness of Syria’s intangible heritage.
Organized by Saudi Arabia’s Heritage Commission, the fair runs November 13–26, 2025, with more than 400 artisans from 40 countries.
