SMU’s Maddy Parker threw down a best time of 22.10 in the 50 free during prelims, breaking the Mustangs’ school record in the event; she shaved .05 off of the record, which was previously set by Isabella Arcila back in 2015.
Parker replicated that swim again in finals, matching her time exactly to finish in the runner-up spot just .01 ahead of 3rd-place competitor Erin Palmer from Utah (22.11). It was Arkansas’s Harriet Rogers who won the event in 21.85, marking her third individual victory of the meet.
SMU picked up a win in the 100 back courtesy of Jimena Leal, who got her hand on the wall first in a time of 53.40. With runner-up Tammy Greenwood of Arkansas touching in 54.00, Leal was the only swimmer in the field to go sub-54.
Leal and Parker joined forces at the end of the night for the 400 medley relay alongside teammates Izzy Krantzcke and Annemarie Vlaic. The quartet posted an overall time of 3:35.33 to win the event, clinching the victory by less than .4 as Arkansas raced in behind them in a time of 3:35.72.
Hawaii continued to post strong performances as well, with Zofia Tyminska once again leading the way for her team. Tyminska logged her second individual victory of the meet, charging into the wall in the 200 breast in a lifetime best time of 2:11.56. Her performance marked the 3rd-fastest time in program history for the Rainbow Wahine.
Not far behind Tyminska was Drury’s Gwen Bergum, who snagged silver in 2:11.78, which marked a huge personal best for her as she dropped over three seconds from previous lifetime best (2:14.85). Bergum’s swim also marks the top Division II time so far this season.
Stanford continued to dominate the competition on the men’s side, winning four of the five events on day 3. Freshman Ethan Ekk continued to shine for the Cardinal, picking up his second individual victory of the meet in the 500 free with a lifetime best time of 4:11.10 and dropping almost two and a half seconds. The other two individual Stanford wins went to Daniel Li in the 200 breast (1:51.88) and Rafael Gu in the 50 free (19.13).
Gu was back in action in the 400 medley relay, joined by Finn Harland, Zhier Fan and Andres Dupont to post the winning time of 3:03.89. The quartet charged into the wall a full two seconds ahead of runner-up team SMU (3:05.89).
The remaining event victory went to SMU, courtesy of Jack Berube. Berube prevailed in the 100 back in 46.07, just over .3 off of his lifetime best (45.74). He narrowly edged out Drury’s Alvaro Zornoza for the win, with Zornoza racing in just behind in 46.14.
