Fire Country fans have been outspoken on the loss of Burke, who was part of the show from the jump. Now, actress Diane Farr (Sharon) is shedding light on what it was like for her to learn that her on-screen partner in crime was exiting the CBS show.
Farr revealed to Us Weekly that the cast didn’t know after filming the Season 3 finale who would make it out of the fire at Walter’s (Jeff Fahey) memory care facility alive.
“I found out over the summer,” she stated. “None of us knew what was happening. Billy, Jeff [Fahey] and I went into the fire and we didn’t have any more information.”
Farr explained there was a chance multiple characters would be leaving the show, given the fire, and also that Jake (Jordan Calloway) was slated to transfer to a different fire station. In the end, the powers that be decided that Vince was going to die and Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila) would leave Edgewater.
“It was very clear that the producers or writers were going to make some kind of change. It was Billy who told us all. He told the cast in a group note saying that he wasn’t coming back — it was pretty devastating. Everyone was sad and I felt like I was coming back in with only half my character because they’re so tied,” Farr expressed.

Following the outrage over Vince’s death, Farr shared a very powerful message to fans about grief and respecting the fire community realistically on the CBS drama. It was a challenge for her to return to the show without Burke, but as the saying goes, the show must go on.
Sharon’s grief over losing Vince has been a focal point this season, and that will continue, especially when her estranged mother comes to town. There’s also the hunt to find out who started the Zabel Ridge fire that killed Vince.
Fire Country airs Fridays at 9/8c on CBS.
